WHAT DOES A HEARING SCREENING ENTAIL?

It screening consists out of 4 different tests: Otoscopic Examination; Tympanometry; Pure Tone Audiometry and Oto Acoustic Emissions. A report detailing the results will be sent home with each child. Read more on the process below.

WHAT TESTS WIL BE DONE?

  • Otoscopic Examination: Examination of the eardrum and ear canal.
  • Tympanometry: Middle ear test.
  • Pure Tone Audiometry: Tests hearing with the use of beep-sounds at different pitches.
  • Oto Acoustic Emissions: The testing of the hearing organ without being reliant on the child’s response to sound

AND THEN WHAT...?

A summarised report with an explanation of the results will be sent home with your child within 1 week from the day of testing at the school.

In the case that we do recommend further testing – we will refer you to an audiologist of your choice – or should you make use of Spectrum Hearing (previously Yolande van der Westhuizen Audiologists) services (associated with Captain Hear’O) you will receive the screening fee as a discount on the fee charged at our practice.
